To quit your learned and payable profession to pursue a passion is such a risk taking and one has to be very bold and courageous to take such decision.
We saw a young female songstress who about 11months ago was introduced to the Ghanaian music scene with a single “Uber Driver”, a signee at RuffTown music, owned by former musician Bullet.
Her invasion came after the untimely death of a record mate, Ebony, a young gifted songstress who was fast growing and gaining all the attention at the Ghanaian music scene.
Wendy Shay, who is arguably the hottest female songstress in Ghana now, in less than a year of doing professional music has achieved some greatness which needs recognition.
Within a period of 11 months, Wendy Shay has released about 12 singles and an album to her credit.
The songstress has participated in 5 music award schemes with 10 nominations and 5 plaques won.
Last year, she had her first music award nomination at the Ghana-Naija Showbiz Awards and was considered a slot at the “Best New Artiste of the Year” category where she emerged winner.
Followed by “Ghana Music Awards SA”, she garnered a nomination in the “New Artiste of the Year” and won her second career award.
Within the same period, the midwife turned musician competed in her regional music awards “Eastern Music Awards” with three nomination slots where she won only a plaque from all. Such includes: “Female Vocalist of the year, Artist of the Year, and Music Video of the Year”. Among all, Wendy took away video of the year award with her maiden release “Uber Driver”.
Not forgetting her nominations at the MuseAfrica’s “Bangerz of the Quarter Awards” where she recorded Afrobeats Song of the quarter, Afrobeats Artiste of the Quarter, and Introlude Song of the Quarter slots.
Also, she has had her name recorded among winners of “most promising artistes of the year” at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards early this year.
Even though Wendy Shay is just 11months old in the industry, she has worked so hard to garner enough fans to her camp which she calls the “Shay Gang”. The difficult thing for a new artiste to come up with, is to organise his/her own show and to be patronise by the public, but Wendy has gone beyond expectations by giving her fans two shows on a roll.
Her established annual concert dubbed “Shay concert” commenced last year at the La Pleasure beach resort on the 22nd of December 2018 which recorded hundreds of concert goers but thousands at the second edition which came off last night at the West Hills Mall, Accra.
Wendy Shay has been one among the few female music performers at this side of the world to have such a promising beginning and needs to be supported in order to achieve greatness.
She is now refered, “the queen of Ghana music” by a section of the masses and I believe such is a great beginning of a superstar.
We can create our own version of Beyonce, Cardi B, Maria Carey, Lady Gaga and COs by supporting, patronising and encouraging our female singers who are doing so well at the market like Wendy Shay.
