In the heat of discussing what “Gospel Music” entails, songstress Nyamedie has urge music award organizers to do well and create a category to separate Religious/Christian music performers from Gospel musicians.
She maintained that, the conclusion of some industry persons of what they mean to define gospel music, it is for sure that not all who are tagged as Gospel musicians practically performs “Gospel music”. She also registered her concern of categorizing some circular artistes as ” Gospel Musician” per the industry’s definition, hence her suggestion of creating a category for Christian music makers in award schemes.
“from what they mean to define Gospel music, it means majority of us practically do not perform gospel music even though we have the names ” Jesus and God” in our songs. I believe singers like Lumba, Kofi Kinaata, Kuami Eugene and some few others ones in a while produces gospel music therefore we need to be specific and separate Christian singers from gospel musicians. Music award organizers should create a category for both” she had told this website.
Over the week, there has been a heated argument on social media and on other traditional media platforms where panels sat to discuss what Gospel Music really entails.
Music Industry players after a week long discussion is arriving at a point to define Gospel music as “Singing about the Good News” which is relative to what one wants to communicate.
With this definition, is very necessary for one to notice that, mentioning Jesus or God in a song never mean you are a gospel singer, perhaps, one can be a Christian singer by singing about the Christian God and Jesus Christ.
Andy Dosty had hosted Rev Abraham Lamptey, Okyeame Quophi, De Don, Franky5 among other panels over the week on HitzFm’s DaybreakHitz show to elaborate on “What Gospel Music Entails”.
