2 Nabbed Over Assembly Project

Two angry men who claimed their ‘football pitch’ is about to be used to build a new office complex for the Municipal Assembly at Tafo and therefore took the law into their own hands to physically obstructing an official ceremony to cut the sod for the project have been arrested.

Officials of the newly-created municipal were about to cut the sod for the construction of the multi-purpose office project Tuesday morning when some angry youth stormed the place.

The youth, singing war songs, said the land earmarked for the project is a football field therefore they would not allow the project to take place.

After several hours of heated verbal debate, the police were called to the scene and two of the troublesome men were apprehended and whisked away to face the law.

Normalcy was then restored for officials of the assembly and the chiefs at Tafo to perform the sod cutting ceremony for the start of the project, under strict police protection.

Speaking to journalists present, Martin Awuah, the Assemblyman for Asuoafram Electoral Area in Tafo, said he was surprised about the “weird” behaviour of the youth.

According to him, it has been widely announced that the assembly block office project would be constructed at the place so the behaviour of the youth was wrong.

He said the Tapass B school is being relocated to Tapass A school, where an 18-unit classroom block is being built, so that the assembly office project could be constructed.

Nana Kwadwo Arhin, the chief of the area, said the construction of the office complex project would help to expedite the developmental processes at Tafo.

In this regard, he admonished all residents of Tafo to support the Municipal Assembly so that the office complex could be completed on time as planned.
